Can I become member of ORU?

The following may become members:

• governments of regions, federal states, provinces or governorates, in general all subnational governments. 

• associations of regional governments, representing the regional governments in a country or state.

• thematic networks from the Regional Governments and Federal States.

None of the above options is excluding a member can be part of ORU at the same time individually, through a regional association and through a thematic network.  

On an individual basis, they shall be entitled to be present at meetings and they shall have one vote.  However, through thematic and geographic networks, the latter shall be the ones present at meetings and the ones that shall have one vote. 

All members of the organisation must express their formal accession to the principles of the Marseille Declaration.

Which are the membership conditions?

All candidates for membership must undertake to support, promote and comply with ORU’s mission, values and objectives, which are reflected in the Founding Charter. The membership to the United Regions Organisation becomes effective upon payment of the annual membership fee.

What are the annual membership fees?

ORU’s financing mainly comes from the annual fees paid by the members. The amount of the fees is determined by the General Assembly. 

The fees are determined on the basis of a calculation taking into account two criteria. On the one hand, the population in the case of regions. And on the other hand, the annual budget in the case of regional associations and networks.
