Official launch of the 2nd LED Regional Forum for Latin America and the Caribbean

It will take place in Cochabamba, Bolivia, from the 28th to the 31st of March 2017, as a preparatory regional meeting for the IV World Forum on Local Economic Development to be held in Cape Verde

On the 6th December 2017, the Bolivian Minister for the Autonomies, Hugo Siles Núñez del Prado, officially presented the 2nd Regional Forum of Local Economic Development for Latin America and the Caribbean that will take place in Tiquipaya (Department of Cochabamba), from the 28th to 31st of March 2017, under the title “Productive development to transform territorial inequalities in Latin America and the Caribbean”.

The Forum in Cochabamba is a preparatory regional meeting for the IV World LED Forum that will take place in the city of Praia, Cape Verde, from the 17th to the 20th of October 2017, where it is hoped that the Latin American local and regional leaders will present a concerted position. Local Economic Development (LED) is a process seeking permanent improvement of a territory’s quality of life through the implementation of joint actions that will generate employment, reinforce micro and small productive units and consequently make the population’s income grow.

The whole process of the World LED Forum has been driven by a coalition of UN agencies, subnational governments, private sector and civil society organisations, which recognise the potential of the Local Economic Development approach and work together to reinforce a global alliance with concrete actions at a local, national and international level. ORU Fogar is a member of its executive committee together with the network of United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG), the UN Development Program (UNDP), the International Labour Organisation (ILO), as well as the organisers of the previous forums: the Andalusian Municipalities Fund for International Solidarity (FAMSI), the Brazilian Service of Support for Micro and Small Enterprises (SEBRAE) and the Metropolitan City of Torino.

From Cochabamba to Cape Verde

It is expected that close to 2,000 participants will attend the forum in Cochabamba to discuss the topic of LED for three days at the Hotel Regina Resort in Tiquipaya. An organising commission has been set up for the forum, comprised of the Autonomies Ministry, the Autonomous Government of Cochabamba, the UNDP, the Federation of Bolivian Municipal Associations, the Municipalities Association of Cochabamba (AMDECO) the Autonomous Government of Tiquipaya and the University of San Simón
