President of the Moroccan Regional Association
Following the regional elections on September 8, 2021, the Moroccan regional association（ARM）, a member of ORU Fogar, held a general meeting at its headquarters in Rabat. During the meeting, ARM reappointed the bureau and elected Ms. Mbarka Bouaida as the new president.
Ms. Mbarka Bouaida (Lakssabi, 1975), chairman of Guelmin Oued Noun, was the first woman to serve as president of the ARM. Prior to serving as regional president, she served as representative of the Minister for foreign affairs and cooperation from 2013 to 2016 and as secretary of state for marine fisheries from 2017 to 2019.
The newly elected regional presidents in the elections held in September 2021 attended the meeting. Mohan Laenser, last president, introduced the main activities of the association during 2016-2021 and highlighted the main projects carried out by the association in cooperation with major national institutions. He also gave an update on partnerships and international cooperation, as well as the actions being taken and future work of the newly elected bureau.
Together with President Bouaida, the new bureau is composed of other regional chairmen of ORU Fogar, such as second vice chairman Rachid El Abdi and third vice chairman Omar Moro ; president of ORU Fogar and of the Rabat-Salé-Kénitra commission, and then the president of Tanger-Tétouan-Al Hoceima commission.
Finally, Ms. Bouaida expressed her deep appreciation to Mr. Laenser for his efforts to make ARM a main part with the right of suggestion and partner on various topics related to advanced regionalization. Subsequently, the General Assembly appointed Mr. Laenser as an honorary member of the ARM.
In this regard, it must be recalled that the Moroccan regional association was established in 2007 at the initiative of the regional presidents of Morocco. The aim is to strengthen the role of regions and to let public authority support them within the framework of the project on advanced regionalization and the establishment of participatory democracy.
