Present again at the World Urban Forum and the United Nations HLPF

The World Urban Forum, the WUF10, held in Abu Dhabi from February 8th to 13th, 2020, was the last of the Global Agenda events, before the pandemic, in which it was possible to participate in face-to-face meetings. Thus, regions such as the Basque Country, Catalonia, Morocco's Oriental, and Finland's Aland were able to present their progress in relation to the New Urban Agenda in that city in the United Arab Emirates. Now, after two years of pandemic, WUF 11 ( will also allow the first face to face meeting of the Global Agenda. There have been many doubts about the holding of this forum, to be held in Katowice, Poland, not least because this country has been deeply affected by the war in Ukraine. However, the Forum will be held from June 26th to 29th.

Several regions will be present in Poland defending ORU Fogar's usual postulates, which have been expressed in two axes: on the one hand, the New Urban Agenda was not only a theme of the cities; and on the other hand, this debate concerns fully the regions because it has to do with territorial planning. Thus, the Local and Regional Governments Assembly will be held on June 26th and 27th, and the Side Event "Subnational Urban Policies as a tool for Sustainable Urban Development" will be held on June 29th. This last event, with the collaboration of ORU Fogar, is organized by the Basque Government and it will be attended by various officials from UN-Habitat, as well as those responsible for the New Urban Agenda of Catalonia and the Valencian Community.

ORU Fogar regions will also be present at the High Level Political Forum for Sustainable Development, which will be held at the United Nations, in New York, from July 5th to 12th. ORU Fogar's President, Rachid El Abdi, will participate in the virtual session, celebrated on July 5th, of the Local and Regional Governments' Fifth Forum for the 2030 Agenda. The autonomous governments of Catalonia and Extremadura (Spain), the Mancomunidad of the Andes (Peru) and CONGOPE (Ecuador) will participate in the face-to-face session of the Forum in New York on the 12th, as well as in the Local and Regional Governments Day.

The HLPF for Sustainable Development is the major event to assess the evolution of the Sustainable Development Goals, with a view to their achievement by 2030. For both regions and local governments, attending the HLPF is an opportunity to show their contribution to the SDGs achievement. This edition, post-pandemic, is the opportunity to assess the level of implementation of the 2030 Agenda, but also the time to review strategies, highlight progress or setbacks and see what recommendations allow to accelerate the achievement towards the ambitious goals, for which we have only 8 years left.
