The mobilisation of the territories will be the key to the success of the Paris COP21, December 2015. The local governments and authorities play a decisive role in the adoption of containment policies and commitments against global warming. PACA and Rhône Alpes, members of ORU, well aware of their role as catalysts for the sustainable development, lead two initiatives that will take place before the debate in Paris.
The “Medcop” Summit in Marseille, organised by the PACA region in June 2015, intends to highlight the common commitment of the Mediterranean actors in the fight against climate change and in the construction of a real positive Mediterranean agenda.
The Mediterranean area has been recognised by experts the experts from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) as one of the most vulnerable areas in terms of climate change. Further information at http://www.regionpaca.fr/
The Global Climate and Territories Summit, lead by the Rhône Alpes region, will be held on the 1st and 2nd of July 2015 in Lyon (France). Its objective is the adoption of the commitments by the national leaders, and the recognition of the role and the position of the subnational and local governments in the field of climate change and other transversal issues. Nrg4SD, as mouthpiece for ORU in sustainable development related issues, strongly supports this event and has committed to work on the “land-use planning” workshop with Eurocities and FNAU.
