ORU Fogar in the consultation for the drafting of the World Report on Sustainable Development

On November 14 and 15, 2022, Ababacar Ndao from the Association of Departments of Senegal participated, on behalf of ORU Fogar, in the United Nations consultation for the drafting of the World Sustainable Development Report, which was held in Dakar.

In this consultation, the representative of ORU Fogar defended that regional governments are as key as central governments for the appropriation of the SDGs and for achieving the objectives of the United Nations 2030 agenda. Ababacar Ndao explained that, despite the diversity of powers of the various intermediate governments, most of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals have to do with policies in the territory that are carried out -or should be carried out- by these regional governments.

The President of the Department of Dagana also drew attention to the role that regional networks have played in appropriating the SDGs. “ORU Fogar, Regions4 or the International Association of Francophone Regions -he explained- have done, since 2015, an extraordinary job disseminating the 2030 Agenda. I believe that the United Nations should have them, therefore, as priority partners when defining policies, at the time of the implementation and evaluation of the SDGs”.

As a concrete example of the task carried out in favor, for example, of SDG 2 "Zero Hunger", Ababacar Ndao evoked the celebration, by ORU Fogar, of the IV World Summit of Regions on Food Security and Sovereignty "Zero Hunger", which was recently held in Araucanía, Chile. "The leadership of ORU Fogar in relation to SDG 2 must be highlighted. The results of the Summit must make an important contribution to the preparation of the 2023 report." He highlighted, at this same level, the contribution of Regions4 presenting the “Declaration of Rabat Salé Kenitra”  in the framework of the COP27 held in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt.
