The Moroccan Head of Government states that their regions move towards autonomy
Within the framework of the Executive Bureau in Rabat, the organisation held a meeting with Saâd-Eddine El Othmani
The new Moroccan Head of Government, Saâd-Eddine El Othmani –appointed in March 2017 by King Mohammed VI to form a government replacing Abdelilah Benkirane– received on the 25th of April a delegation of ORU Fogar at the seat of government in Rabat. The meeting took place within the framework of ORU’s Executive Bureau and Working Sessions that were held at the Rabat-Salé-Kénitra Regional Council, under the Presidency of Abdessamad Sekkal.
The meeting was attended by ORU’s Presidency and Secretariat, as well as the Executive Bureau members. After welcoming the participants, Saâd-Eddine El Othmani reviewed the regionalization process initiated in the Kingdom of Morocco. He assured that the Governments attached great importance to this process, which affects the country’s twelve Regional Councils and for which mechanisms have been put in place to reinforce the regions and rebuild the State in pursuit of sustainable development. “We have a solidarity fund among regions that allows to offer support to those in greater need and avoid disparity among rich and poor regions”, he explained, and he finished with the announcement that the Moroccan decentralisation process will allow regional governments in the country to become autonomous regions.
The President of ORU Fogar and of the Rabat-Salé-Kénitra Regional Council, Abdessamad Sekkal, thanked the Head of Government for welcoming the organisation and he explained the work it carries out in the interest of regionalization worldwide. “ORU Fogar works since its foundation to become the voice of intermediate governments in the global arena”, he said, “promoting regional policies and the exchange of successful decentralisation experiences”.
