The 4th World Forum of Local Economic Development, to be held from the 17th to 20th of October in Praia, Cabo Verde, intends to provide a space for a critical reflection and to promote creative discussions on how can we do things differently in order to address rising inequalities and achieve a more just, equal and sustainable development for all.
The event, coorganized by ORU Fogar, is part of an ongoing process which aims at facilitating a dialogue and at promoting exchanges on LED among a wide array of engaged stakeholders, including national and sub-national governments, the private sector, academia and civil society. The event also aims at encouraging concrete cooperation and promoting joint actions that can help landing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development at the local level.
The theme of the 4th edition of the Forum is Local Economic Development as a means to localize the Sustainable Development Goals, and especially to address rising inequalities. The Forum will delve how LED is a foundation for integrated and cohesive territories, resilient and peaceful societies, and sustainable and inclusive economies. A special focus will be devoted to LED and Small Island Developing States. On its part, ORU Fogar will place emphasis on the theme of rural development, as it did in the 2nd Regional LED Forum for Latin America and the Caribbean last June.
The event comprises more than 50 sessions, including plenary sessions, policy dialogues, interactive panels and learning agenda sessions. The Forum is open to the public and the registration is free. You are kindly invited to fill out the registration form at the Forum's website.
The 4th World Forum of Local Economic Development is organized by the Government of Cabo Verde, the global network of United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG), the Andalusian Fund of Municipalities for International Solidarity (FAMSI), the Organization of United Regions (ORU Fogar), the International Labour Organization (ILO), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and the previous host organizations, the Brazilian Service of Support for Micro and Small Enterprises (SEBRAE), and the Municipality and Metropolitan City of Turin.
