ORU signs an agreement with the International Labour Organisation

The General Assembly held in Quito approved the signing of a cooperation agreement between ORU and ILO to promote decent work projects

ORU Fogar and the International Labour Organisation (ILO) signed, last 19th of October, a collaboration agreement to promote decent work and formalizing informal work in ORU’s member regions. ILO’s aim is to achieve social justice through the improvement of conditions of labour and the protection of workers, which ORU undertakes to support by means of this cooperation agreement.

The President of ORU Fogar, Abdessamad Sekkal and Giovanni di Cola, Special Advisor at ILO, signed the agreement during the Habitat III Conference, after the proposal had been presented and approved at the General Assembly that ORU Fogar held in Quito on the 16th of October. With this agreement, both organisations set common objectives in the pursuance of peace and democracy, universal respect for justice, human rights and fundamental freedoms. Therefore, their joint action will focus on the promotion of decent work at a territorial level, in ORU Fogar’s member regions, through a local economic development approach.

Cooperation with UN agencies

The agreement follows the tradition of those previously concluded with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the UN Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), which have been very successful. With the UNDP, ORU co-organises the Local Development Forum and initiatives like the Regional Best Practices Award. FAO contributed their work to ORU’s Work Group on Food Security.
