ORU’s President travels to Rome to meet with the Italian regions

Abdessamad Sekkal met with the President of the Conferenza delle Regioni, Stefano Bonaccini to explore possibilities of collaboration

After his visit to the Secretariat-General in Barcelona, ORU Fogar’s new President, Abdessamad Sekkal, travelled to Rome (Italy) to meet with Stefano Bonaccini, President of the Conferenza delle Regioni Uniti and of the Emilia-Romagna region, with the mission of strengthening relations with the Italian regions

During the meeting, Sekkal and Bonaccini discussed matters relating to international cooperation for the sustainable development of the regions, with the aim of taking concrete measures to effectively fight climate change. Both presidents agreed on the need to build a platform to exchange governmental good practices facilitating above all relations between northern and southern regions in the world.

In this sense, Bonaccini underlined the importance of activating synergies with the Council of European Municipalities and Regions (CCRE-CEMR), which he also chairs. He explained that an effort will be made to promote common sustainable development projects between north and south. Abdessamad Sekkal, for its part, invited the Conferenza delle Regioni to attend ORU Fogar’s next Executive Bureau meeting to be held in Rabat, Morocco, on April 24-25, 2017 and General Assembly to be held in October in the Basque Country.
