Channelled through nrg4SD, the regions had an important presence at the COP held in Bonn from the 6th to the 17th of November. This UN Conference on Climate Change ended with the adoption of the document "Fiji momentum for the implementation", which establishes balancing mechanisms on the implementation of the Paris Agreement and the policies against Climate Change, by 2020, and with a view to the COP24 and the COP25.
While the states debated and adopted this document, from the 11th to the 13th of November, the Marrakech Association for Global Climate Action (MPGCA) organised a 6-day program aimed at expanding climate action by non-member actions, including the events organized by nrg4SD and the regions.
The Climate Summit of Local and Regional Leaders was held on the 12th of November with presentations by nrg4SD, the Ecuadorian province of Azuay, the French region of La Reunion and Quebec. Their speeches stressed the role of the regional governments in climate action. They also indicated the possibility of making progress in the governance and multi-level partnership with the private sector. The Summit ended with the adoption of the “Bonn-Fiji Commitment of the local and regional leaders”, a document that evidences the involvement of these actors in the local agenda.
Bonn offered the opportunity for nrg4SD and the RegionsAdapt members to share their position and achievements in this field. nrg4SD also announced that it’s joining the BreatheLife Campaign.
