Since March 2024, the Generalitat of Catalonia has been implementing the project "My period, my rules", which aims to ensure that all menstruating people have access to tools and information to freely decide how to manage their menstrual cycle. The initial situation that prompted the development of this initiative was the difficulties menstruating people face in accessing menstrual products, combined with the persistent taboo surrounding menstruation and menopause. The lack of information leads to a gap in menstrual education and knowledge of the human body, making it harder for women and menstruating individuals to make informed decisions about which products best suit their menstrual cycles.
In this context, the project seeks to break taboos and promote menstrual equity and the use of reusable products. This is carried out through the creation of spaces for training pharmacy staff and the general public. Furthermore, the initiative aims to ensure that all menstruating people between the ages of 10 and 60 have access to reusable menstrual products according to their specific needs. Although this practice, promoted by the Generalitat of Catalonia, has not yet been implemented in other regions, it represents an innovative and necessary initiative in menstrual education with high potential for replication.
