Ecological restoration – Participatory restoration of wetlands in the province of Azuay

Another one of the prizes has been given to the project developed in the Azuay region, in Ecuador. The project aims at the restoration and the rescue of wetlands and ecosystem services within the Azuay region, as they have suffered the consequences of overexploitation and pollution, aggravating factors, in part, of the problems that the local population suffers from. The Provincial Government of Azuay has applied technical interventions to promote the recovery of these wetlands. The project has been replicated with a certain ease, despite an initial rejection from the livestock sector.
