Call for Applications: 10th Award for Best Regional Practices

The United Regions Organization (ORU Fogar) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) announce the launch of the 10th edition of the Award for Best Regional Practices, marking ten consecutive years dedicated to recognizing and promoting the most innovative initiatives in regional public management. This award aims to identify and disseminate practices that generate a positive impact on citizens and can be replicated in other contexts. The deadline for submitting applications is May 31, 2025.

This award highlights projects that have contributed to sustainable development and administrative efficiency. In previous editions, initiatives in local economic development, inclusive policies with a gender focus, and programs that integrated digitalization and environmental sustainability in their regions were recognized.

The winning practices will be included in ORU Fogar’s Best Practices Bank, an international platform that facilitates the dissemination and replication of the most outstanding public management strategies. This repository enables regional achievements to be shared globally, promoting innovation and cooperation among public administrations across different countries.

The award ceremony will take place during ORU Fogar’s General Assembly, followed by a virtual presentation with the winners. Although the award does not include a monetary prize, the international recognition and global promotion of the winning practices are key incentives for participation.

During the award ceremony for the 9th edition, held as part of ORU Fogar’s 2024 Annual Assembly, ORU Fogar President Rachid El Abdi once again encouraged African regions—widely represented at the Barcelona assembly but absent among the winners—to participate in the award. He highlighted the commitment of African regions to sustainable development and expressed his belief that proposals from these regions could demonstrate significant quality. He therefore urged regions from the continent to submit their applications.
