The Colombian juncture permeates the III LED Forum for Latin America
The III Local Economic Development Forum for Latin America and the Caribbean, held in Barranquilla from 7 to 9 May, was completely determined by the political and social situation in Colombia. The Forum, entitled "Local Economic Development in Fragile and Conflict-Affected Territories", was attended by local and regional governments from all over Latin America, a large representation of ORU Fogar members, but also a large representation of Colombian political and social actors.
Elections for the Presidency and Bureau in Cordoba
ORU Fogar' Bureau, meeting for the second time in Barcelona last 23rd and 24th April, validated the call for joint elections of president and Bureau during the assembly of the organization to be held on December 1st in Cordoba, within the framework of the V Forum on Local Economic Development to be held in that Argentine province. It was also agreed to discuss and approve the organisation's Strategic Plan for 2020-2030 in Cordoba.
Tourism workshop at the III LED Forum
ORU Fogar and the Diputació de Barcelona, organized the Workshop "Sustainable tourism as a tool for development" in Barranquilla in the framework of the III Forum of Local Economic Development in Latin America and the Caribbean, on 8 and 9 May. Aimed at representatives of public administrations attending the Forum, the workshop was attended by Patricio Azcárate, president of the Institute of Responsible Tourism, and Vanesa Mas, head of the Territorial Management Unit of the Technical Office of Tourism of Diputació de Barcelona.

A new government, a new power
In October 2018, the departmental government of Nariño, Colombia's southern territory, was recognized by the Organization of United Regions, ORU FOGAR, and UNDP as one of the world's five good public management practices for our Nariño Open Government strategy (GANA). This mention was added to other international recognitions that have considered that the actions, tools, inputs, methodologies and impacts achieved from the experience of GANA, serve today as a regional, national and global reference to the challenges that we governors face to combat the growing damage of corruption in public bodies. Much is said about corruption, but little is done to combat the root of its delirious effects that always threaten the dignity of our citizens.
