ORU FOGAR denounces the bombardment of the headquarters of a regional council in Ukraine
During the bombardment of the Kharkiv Regional Council on the first of March, ORU Fogar President Rashid el Abdi recorded a message condemning the bombing, while expressing his solidarity with the Donbass region (and the city of Mariupol) in which, he recalled, ORU Fogar had kept in touch and worked. In the message, and after condemning the use of violence as a method of conflict resolution, ORU Fogar defended governance based on respect for diversity, decentralization and recognition of territories. These principles, he said, have been proven to promote the development of peoples. He also recalled the experiences of territorial integration, which sometimes go beyond borders and "old hatreds".
Regions and projects to promote women's participation
On March 10th, also on Women's Day, the Catalan Women's Institute and ORU Fogar organised a seminar during which the best practices of regional governments in favour of women's political and social participation were presented.
A new door open to the United Nations?
On February 24th, the annual meeting of the Global Working Group of Local and Regional Governments was held in Barcelona to assess options for a new relationship between local and regional governments and the United Nations system.

The Ukraine-Russia crisis
Since the outbreak of the conflict between Ukraine and Russia, the Organization of the United Regions(ORU Fogar) did not intend to manifest itself against the latter, which threatens peace and security in Eastern Europe, but our position is to encourage a peaceful settlement of this conflict through diplomatic channels, talks and mediation of states, especially those affected by tensions between the two countries. Since our creation in 2007, we have defended governance based on respect for diversity, decentralization and territories: principles as we have seen, promote the development of peoples. And, among other things, we have experienced processes of territorial integration that have transcended borders, and even old hatreds.
