ORU Fogar highly present in the debates of the United Nations High-Level Political Forum
With the presence of representatives from all continents, the regions once again reaffirmed their commitment to the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals during the High-Level Political Forum (HLPF) on Sustainable Development held in New York from July 10th to 19th. Members of ORU Fogar from Europe, Ecuador, Argentina, Senegal, and Kenya participated in the 6th Forum of Regional and Local Governments, as well as in various events, some of which were organized by ORU Fogar.

Participating in Food Systems Stocktaking Moments
The ORU Fogar Food Sovereignty Core Group actively participated in the UN Food Systems Coordination Hub (UNFSS+2), which was celebrated in Rome from July 24th to July 26th. The Hub noted the severe worsening that the climate crisis, war and the increase in the prices are causing to world food systems.

Major agreement reached between Kenya's central government and its Counties at the Devolution Conference 2023
The Devolution Conference organised by Kenya's Council of Governors, held between 15-19 August in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County, concluded with a major agreement between the governors and the national government.

Indigenous communities’ rights to self-determination

Practices, analyses, and proposals concerning the right to self-determination of indigenous communities go back a long way. The first clear recognition of indigenous peoples as subjects of rights and, specifically as communities, with the right to self-determination dates back to the so-called “Informe Martínez Cobo” (“Martínez Cobo report”).
