Launch of the European Semiconductor Regions Alliance
On May 29, the first general assembly of the European Semiconductor Regions Alliance (ESRA) was held in Dresde (Germany) under the auspices of the Free State of Saxony, one of Europe's most important semiconductor regions. The assembly brought together for the first time 32 regions of the European Union, with the participation of Wales from the United Kingdom.

ORU Fogar presents examples of regional participatory democracy
In the framework of the ALDA 2024 Festival, held from May 13th to 15th in Barcelona, different examples of regional participatory democracy were presented. ORU Fogar's secretary, Carles Llorens, was in charge of explaining good practices from different geographies, showing examples from Ecuador, Colombia, Catalonia, the Basque Country and Senegal. “Some of them - said Llorens - were very surprising”.

Niger's military junta dissolves regional councils
The military junta which has governed Niger since July last year has dissolved the country's regional governments. Thus, all the regional presidents have been dismissed, along with the mayors, who had been elected at the end of 2020. The order, signed by General Abdourahamane Tiani, was announced on public television. However, no explanation was given as to the reason for this dissolution.

The importance of territorial adaptation
While the world is already at 1.1 °C of warming above the pre-industrial average, Europe is warming faster: the European Environment Agency estimates that land temperatures have increased by over 2 °C. The IPCC notes that the impacts of compound hazards of warming and precipitation have become more frequent, and identifies four key risks for the continent: mortality, morbidity and ecosystem changes due to heat; heat and drought stress on crops; water scarcity; and flooding and sea level rise. In this context, the need to adapt the continent to the impacts of the changing climate is more urgent than ever.
