UN SDG Action Awards


The UN SDG Action Campaign, a special inter-agency initiative of the UN Secretary General is launching the third edition of the UN SDG Action Awards program. Its goal it to promote cooperation between governments and celebrate initiatives undertaken to reach the Sustainable Development Goals ever since the Adoption of the Agenda 2030. In the wake of the current crisis, this initiative of supporting and promoting coordinated responses in the international community taking into account every global issue is even more relevant.

Any project addressing one of the 17 sustainable development goals is welcome in the contest. Ideally it should align with three parameters ; mobilizing a large number of actors through in a partnership across communities and societies, inspiring people to shape behavior and policies towards the achievement of the goals, and/or enhancing the dialogue and trust between partners, people and institutions at all levels.

As an indicator, in the two previous editions more than 2750 applications were send from 142 countries send. Among the initiatives that were honored, there was a transmedia series illustrating the impact of climate change, youth theatre and poetry programmes addressing taboos on sexual and reproductive health and blockchain platforms connecting entrepreneurs from among the world’s poorest to clean up ocean plastic.

People and organisations can apply and send their initiatives before the 25th of May. The winners will receive a prize during the UN SDG Action Awards Ceremony at the UN Headquarters in New York City and benefit from advertisement to inspire the international community to reach the 17 sustainable development goals and fulfill the Agenda 2030.
