The V Summit was a clamor in favor of proximity food

If the IV Summit of Zero Hunger Regions, held in 2022 in Temuco, Araucanía, Chile, was the moment when regionalism made a definitive commitment to food sovereignty, going beyond the concept of food security, the V Summit was a unanimous commitment in favor of local food. The “Manifesto Catalunya” solemnly expressed it when it stated: “Food sovereignty requires a firm commitment to proximity”.

Agricultural vocational training as a key to achieving Zero Hunger
While at the 4th Zero Hunger Summit of Regions held in Temuco, Araucanía, Chile, the main theme was the fight against food waste, at the 5th Summit in Barcelona the main focus of attention was the demand for better agricultural vocational training, especially by the African regional leaders present at the Summit.

The region is the framework for a sustainable food system
With the V Summit of Zero Hunger Regions, regionalism has responded to the United Nations Secretary General, Antonio Guterres, launched in September 2021. At that time, the Secretary General convened a Food Systems Summit. Beyond the annual meetings of the Committee on World Food Security, beyond the activity of the FAO, with this Summit, Guterres pointed out the importance of the concept 'food system', to add immediately that it must be 'sustainable'.

Women and “Zero Hunger"
The Side-event “Women and Zero Hunger”, organized by ORU Fogar and the Club of Rome in the framework of the V Regions Zero Hunger Summit, with the participation of women governors and regional leaders from different geographies, was a radical manifestation of confidence in the capacity of women to contribute to food sovereignty.

ORU Fogar at the Summit of the Future
As every year, several ORU Fogar delegations have been in New York to attend the call of the United Nations to participate in the Hight Level Political Forum -in July- and, this year, in the Summit of the Future -in September-.

The Government of Catalonia has hosted the 5th Summit of Zero Hunger Regions on Food Sovereignty and Security. The dialogue between the regions came to Catalonia with considerable experience, dating back to 2010 with the first summit held in Senegal. Here at the summit in Catalonia, the regions raised their voices to claim their leading role in the fight against hunger.
